Flocculant / the substituation of nalco 71300 cationic flocculant emulsion
Application of Nalco 71300
Nalco 71300 is a high-performance cationic polyacrylamide emulsion designed for efficient solid–liquid separation in municipal and industrial water treatment systems. With its high molecular weight, optimized cationic charge density, and rapid inversion characteristics, Nalco 71300 functions primarily as a flocculant for sludge conditioning, clarification, and dewatering. The application of Nalco 71300 focuses on improving floc formation, accelerating water release, and reducing overall operating costs across a wide range of treatment processes.
One of the most important applications of Nalco 71300 is in municipal wastewater treatment plants, particularly for waste activated sludge (WAS) and mixed sludge dewatering. Biological sludges typically carry strong negative surface charges and contain large amounts of bound water, making them difficult to dewater. Nalco 71300 neutralizes these charges while providing long-chain polymer bridging, forming large, dense, and shear-resistant flocs.
When applied before centrifuges, belt filter presses, or screw presses, Nalco 71300 significantly improves cake solids content and reduces filtrate turbidity. This leads to lower sludge volume, reduced hauling and disposal costs, and more stable plant operation. In many facilities, the use of Nalco 71300 also allows a reduction in overall polymer dosage while maintaining or improving dewatering performance.
Nalco 71300 is widely used in sludge thickening systems, including gravity thickeners and dissolved air flotation (DAF) sludge units. In these applications, the cationic polyacrylamide emulsion enhances floc strength and settling or flotation behavior. Stronger flocs improve solids capture and enable higher underflow concentrations, resulting in more efficient thickening and reduced hydraulic loading on downstream dewatering equipment.
Because Nalco 71300 is supplied in emulsion form, it offers rapid dissolution and consistent polymer activation. This ensures reliable performance in high-throughput systems and reduces operational variability caused by incomplete polymer hydration.
In industrial wastewater treatment, Nalco 71300 is applied across many sectors, including food and beverage processing, chemical manufacturing, pulp and paper, textile production, petrochemical refining, and metal processing. These wastewaters often contain fine suspended solids, organic matter, fats, oils, and emulsified contaminants that are difficult to remove.
Nalco 71300 is commonly used after primary coagulation to enhance flocculation and clarification in sedimentation tanks and DAF systems. The cationic nature of the polymer makes it particularly effective for aggregating negatively charged organic solids. Improved solids removal reduces suspended solids loading on downstream biological treatment systems and helps facilities meet increasingly strict discharge standards.
A key application of Nalco 71300 is in the pulp and paper industry, where it is used for sludge dewatering, fiber recovery, and process water clarification. Paper mill sludges contain fibers, fillers, and organic residues that benefit from strong flocculation. Nalco 71300 improves drainage and produces drier sludge cakes, reducing energy consumption and disposal costs.
In fiber recovery systems, Nalco 71300 enhances retention of fine fibers and fillers, improving raw material efficiency and reducing losses to effluent streams. Improved white water clarity also supports higher levels of internal water reuse within the mill.
Nalco 71300 is also applied in oilfield produced water and refinery wastewater treatment. These wastewaters often contain negatively charged oil droplets, suspended solids, and chemical additives. Nalco 71300 promotes effective aggregation and separation of these contaminants in clarifiers and flotation units. Reduced oil and solids content protects downstream biological and membrane treatment processes, improving overall system reliability.
In the food and beverage industry, Nalco 71300 is used to treat wastewater containing proteins, starches, fats, and organic solids. These materials form stable colloids that are difficult to settle. Nalco 71300 enhances floc formation and solids removal, improving pretreatment efficiency and reducing organic loading on biological treatment systems.
The application of Nalco 71300 offers multiple operational advantages, including rapid floc formation, stable dewatering performance, reduced polymer consumption, and lower sludge disposal costs. Its emulsion format allows easy handling, fast activation, and accurate dosing, making it suitable for modern automated treatment systems.
