Polyacrylamide / the replacement of kurifarm PA-904 anionic polyacrylamide --A4018
Kurifarm PA-904 is a high-molecular-weight anionic polyacrylamide (A-PAM) designed for advanced solid–liquid separation processes across multiple industries, especially in wastewater treatment, mineral processing, agricultural waste management, and industrial effluent clarification. Its formulation provides a balanced combination of long polymer chain length and medium-to-high anionic charge density, making it highly effective in systems containing fine, negatively charged particles. Kurifarm PA-904 is valued for its fast floc formation, excellent settling rates, strong dewatering performance, and reliable stability even under variable process conditions. Because of these characteristics, it serves as a versatile flocculant in operations that demand efficient water recovery and sludge reduction.
One of the most important application areas of Kurifarm PA-904 is industrial wastewater treatment, where it functions both as a clarifying flocculant and a sludge-dewatering aid. In wastewater streams from food processing, textile dyeing, chemical plants, metal finishing, sugar mills, dairy operations, pulp and paper mills, and pharmaceutical facilities, suspended solids are often colloidal and difficult to settle without chemical intervention. PA-904 neutralizes and bridges these fine particles, forming large, stable flocs that settle rapidly. This improves primary and secondary clarification processes, reduces turbidity, enhances the performance of dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, and supports compliance with discharge regulations. Furthermore, in sludge treatment operations, Kurifarm PA-904 enhances water release on mechanical dewatering equipment—including belt presses, screw presses, filter presses, and centrifuges—leading to lower sludge moisture and reduced disposal costs.
In municipal wastewater treatment, Kurifarm PA-904 is widely used in sludge conditioning, thickening, and dewatering. Activated sludge and digested sludge contain fine biosolid particles that require strong flocculants for effective water extraction. PA-904 forms robust flocs that withstand shear forces inside centrifuges and rotary equipment, improving solids capture and producing drier cake. This leads to lower energy usage, reduced polymer dosage in downstream processes, and improved operational stability at wastewater treatment plants. It also enhances sludge thickening in gravity thickeners, enabling higher solids concentration and reducing the hydraulic load on digesters.
Kurifarm PA-904 also plays a critical role in mining and mineral processing, where consistent solid–liquid separation is essential for plant productivity and environmental management. Tailings and process slurries containing ultra-fine minerals—such as clays, silicates, iron oxides, sulfides, and calcite—settle slowly without flocculants. PA-904 promotes rapid settling by forming large flocs that separate cleanly from the liquid phase. This is particularly beneficial in tailings thickeners, concentrate thickeners, and clarifiers used in operations involving copper, coal, phosphate, bauxite, gold, manganese, and rare-earth minerals. By improving overflow clarity and increasing underflow density, PA-904 enables greater water recovery, reduces tailings pond size, and enhances the overall efficiency of water management circuits. In highly alkaline slurries—such as red-mud residue from alumina refining—PA-904 helps accelerate solids settling, contributing to better washing efficiency and reduced soda loss.
The polymer is also used extensively in agricultural waste treatment, including livestock wastewater, biogas plant effluent, and manure slurry management. Pig farms, cattle farms, and poultry operations generate effluent with high levels of suspended solids, organic matter, nutrients, and colloidal particles. Kurifarm PA-904 works effectively together with coagulants to clarify wastewater, separate manure solids, and improve dissolved oxygen levels in treated water. This contributes to odor reduction, improved water reuse, and lower environmental impact. In biogas systems, the polymer can be used to thicken digested sludge, enhancing the efficiency of downstream dewatering and reducing transportation volume.
In the construction and tunneling industry, Kurifarm PA-904 provides excellent performance for slurry treatment and sedimentation. Slurries produced during bored piling, trench excavation, diaphragm wall construction, tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations, and river dredging often contain bentonite, cement fines, silts, and clay. These particles are difficult to settle without chemical assistance. PA-904 rapidly clarifies slurry water, enabling faster recycling of construction water and reducing the load on sedimentation basins. This helps contractors meet strict turbidity and discharge requirements while minimizing the space needed for slurry ponds. In sand washing and aggregate washing systems, PA-904 improves recovery of process water and enhances the efficiency of fines removal.
In the oil and gas sector, Kurifarm PA-904 is used in produced-water clarification, drilling fluid recycling, and tailings treatment. Produced water often contains fine solids, scale residues, and organic particles that benefit from anionic polyacrylamide flocculation. PA-904 helps separate solids efficiently in settling tanks and flotation units. In drilling mud systems, the polymer assists in removing ultra-fine solids to maintain fluid quality and protect drilling equipment.
Another key application of PA-904 is in paper and pulp wastewater treatment, where it helps remove suspended fibers, fillers, kaolin, coating pigments, and cellulose fines. It enhances water clarity in white-water recovery systems, improves sludge dewatering, and reduces chemical load on biological treatment steps. In chemical and petrochemical industries, PA-904 effectively flocculates catalyst fines, mineral residues, carbon particles, paint solids, pigment dispersions, and polymer fines, improving the overall stability of effluent treatment systems.
One of the distinguishing advantages of Kurifarm PA-904 is its adaptability across a wide range of pH levels and process conditions. It retains floc strength even under mechanical shear, making it suitable for high-rate clarifiers, lamella separators, and dynamic dewatering systems. Its high molecular weight offers excellent bridging capability, allowing for lower dosage rates and increased cost efficiency.
In summary, Kurifarm PA-904 finds broad application in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, mining and mineral processing, agricultural waste management, construction slurry treatment, oilfield produced water, and paper-mill effluent clarification. Its combination of strong flocculation performance, dependable dewatering capability, and operational versatility makes it an indispensable anionic polyacrylamide for industries requiring consistent, high-efficiency solid–liquid separation.
