Polyacrylamide / the equivalent of PRAESTOL LT27 can be replaced by Chinafloc A
PRAESTOL LT 27 is a cationic polyacrylamide flocculant widely used in municipal and industrial solid–liquid separation processes. It is characterized by a medium to high cationic charge density combined with high molecular weight, which allows it to effectively neutralize negatively charged particles and form strong polymer bridges between fine solids. As a result, PRAESTOL LT 27 produces large, dense, and shear-resistant flocs that settle or dewater efficiently. Its main applications include sludge dewatering, wastewater clarification, and solids handling across a wide range of industries.
One of the most important application areas of PRAESTOL LT 27 is municipal wastewater treatment, particularly in biological sludge dewatering. Waste activated sludge (WAS), mixed sludge, and digested sludge contain a high proportion of negatively charged organic matter and microorganisms. PRAESTOL LT 27 effectively neutralizes these charges, allowing sludge particles to aggregate into compact flocs. When used ahead of belt filter presses, centrifuges, screw presses, or filter presses, the polymer significantly improves solids capture, increases cake dryness, and reduces solids in the centrate or filtrate. Higher dry solids content directly lowers sludge transport and disposal costs, making PRAESTOL LT 27 a cost-effective solution for wastewater treatment plants.
In industrial wastewater treatment, PRAESTOL LT 27 is extensively applied where effluents contain fine suspended solids, emulsified organics, or biological residues. Industries such as food and beverage processing, pulp and paper, textile manufacturing, chemical production, and pharmaceuticals generate wastewater streams that require efficient clarification and sludge handling. PRAESTOL LT 27 is commonly used in primary clarifiers, dissolved air flotation (DAF) units, and secondary clarification systems. In DAF applications, the polymer improves floc strength and flotation efficiency, leading to better removal of fats, oils, grease (FOG), and suspended solids. This results in clearer effluent and reduced load on downstream biological treatment units.
Another significant application of PRAESTOL LT 27 is in the pulp and paper industry. Paper mill effluents typically contain fibers, fillers, fines, and organic additives that are difficult to separate. PRAESTOL LT 27 is used for fiber recovery, white water clarification, and sludge dewatering. By flocculating fine cellulose fibers and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate and clay, the polymer improves solids removal and allows valuable fibers to be recycled back into the production process. In sludge dewatering, PRAESTOL LT 27 enhances cake dryness and improves press throughput, contributing to lower waste disposal costs and improved plant efficiency.
PRAESTOL LT 27 also finds application in industrial sludge thickening and conditioning, particularly for sludges with a high organic content. In gravity thickeners and drum thickeners, the polymer increases floc size and settling velocity, allowing higher solids loading and more stable thickener operation. This is especially beneficial in plants facing capacity limitations or fluctuating sludge characteristics. The improved thickening performance reduces the volume of sludge sent to dewatering equipment and optimizes overall process efficiency.
In the chemical and petrochemical industries, PRAESTOL LT 27 is used to treat wastewater streams containing fine catalysts, polymers, or organic residues. The cationic nature of the polymer allows it to interact strongly with negatively charged colloids and emulsified particles, forming flocs that can be removed by sedimentation or flotation. This improves effluent clarity and helps facilities meet increasingly stringent discharge regulations.
Another important area of use is mining and mineral processing, particularly where sludges contain a mixture of inorganic solids and organic reagents from flotation processes. Although anionic flocculants are often used for tailings thickening, PRAESTOL LT 27 is effective for process water clarification and sludge dewatering when organic content is significant. It can be used alone or in combination with inorganic coagulants to improve solids capture and water recovery.
From an operational standpoint, PRAESTOL LT 27 is typically supplied as a dry powder or emulsion and is diluted with water before application. Proper polymer make-down, aging time, and dosing control are critical to achieving optimal performance. When correctly prepared and applied, the polymer produces stable flocs that withstand mechanical shear in pumps, pipes, and dewatering equipment.
In summary, PRAESTOL LT 27 is a versatile and high-performance cationic polyacrylamide flocculant primarily used in municipal wastewater sludge dewatering, industrial wastewater clarification, pulp and paper processing, industrial sludge thickening, and various organic-rich effluent treatments. Its ability to enhance floc formation, improve dewatering efficiency, increase solids capture, and reduce overall treatment costs makes it an essential chemical in modern water and sludge management systems across multiple industries.
