Polydadmac (poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)) has various applications in water treatment, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Coagulation and Flocculation
- Working Mechanism: Polydadmac is a kind of cationic polyelectrolyte. In water treatment, it neutralizes the negative charges on the surface of colloidal particles and suspended substances. Due to the strong electrostatic attraction, the originally repulsive particles can approach each other and aggregate. Meanwhile, the long molecular chain of polydadmac can adsorb and bridge multiple particles, gathering them into large flocs, which is conducive to the separation of solid and liquid by sedimentation or filtration.

Treatment of Heavy Metal Ions
- Working Mechanism: The quaternary ammonium groups in the polydadmac molecular structure have a strong chelating effect with heavy metal ions. They can form stable complexes with heavy metal ions such as copper, nickel, lead and mercury through coordination bonds and electrostatic interactions, converting the free heavy metal ions in water into insoluble or weakly soluble forms, thus facilitating their removal from water.

At the same time, it can form a network structure in the sludge, which can entrap water molecules and squeeze out the bound water in the sludge under the action of external forces such as mechanical pressure, thus improving the dewatering effect of the sludge.
