When we talk about the alcohol industry, we can always image the severity of the pollution. The water pollution is the most main and serious in pollutions of the alcohol industry. The main source of pollution is alcohol distillers grains, which is acidic, with a high quantity of CODs. According to statistics, manufacturers need discharge almost 20 tons of distillers in order to produce 1 ton of alcohol. So that the wastewater emissions is very huge, due to the large alcohol production quantity. This is also a reason to explain why alcohol wastewater treatment is strongly concerned by people.

But how does Polyacrylamide work for the alcohol wastewater treatment? Generally Polyacrylamide is mainly used in the last section of sludge dewatering process. We shall use cationic Polyacrylamide. But which degree of ions should be used is due to choose which kind of material to produce alcohol, which kind of technology for wastewater treatment and the PH value of sludge. Generally selection experience in laboratory is recommended for specifics.

As alcohol plants discharge organic waste water directly, which will cause serious pollution to the surrounding environment, so alcohol plants propose a wastewater treatment facility in order to discharge by standard after collecting and treating the waste water and achieve social, economic and environmental benefit. Cationic Polyacrylamide powder is usually used to treat organic waste water. Waste water mainly contains: starch, protein, yeast residues, hop residue, a small amount of alcohol and washing alkali, belongs to non-toxic organic wastewater. In wastewater the main pollution indexes are CODcr, BOD5, SS, etc., BOD5 / CODcr≈1.65, with good biodegradability, better to use biological treatment processes.

Cationic polyacrylamide usually allows suspended particles with negative charge in waste water to flocculate and deposit. According to the cationic acidic or alkaline medium in flocculation device, it is extremely effective to rapidly clean waste water relying electropositive. Except cationic Polyacrylamide powder, PAC and anionic Polyacrylamide are also increasingly widely applied in organic wastewater treatment.

One of the largest uses for polyacrylamide is to flocculate solids in a liquid. This process applies to water treatment, and processes like paper making, Screen Printing. Polyacrylamide can be supplied in a powder or liquid form, with the liquid form being subcategorized as solution and emulsion polymer. Even though these products are often called 'polyacrylamide', many are actually copolymers of acrylamide and one or more other chemical species, such as an acrylic acid or a salt thereof. The main consequence of this is to give the 'modified' polymer a particular ionic character.
