Flocculation is an efficient method to treat sewage and sludge, and organic polymer flocculants are often used to
flocculate sludge and industrial wastewater, especially acrylamide polymers. Compared with inorganic coagulants

and compact flocs. Among them, cationic polyacrylamide flocculants have better flocculation ability, because they
can more effectively occur adsorption bridging and electrical neutralization. It can be obtained by reaction by solution
polymerization, reverse emulsion polymerization, template polymerization, micelle polymerization and other polymerization
methods. These polymerization methods are usually to add initiator or not to add initiator and then through thermal
initiation, radiation initiation, photoinitiation and other initiation methods to cause monomer polymerization reaction
to obtain the final cationic polyacrylamide. Cationic polyacrylamide usually flocculates with colloidal particles in sewage
or sludge by adsorption and bridging and electrical neutralization to form larger flocs. At present, cationic polyacrylamide
is widely used in the fields of oily wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater, papermaking wastewater, flocculation
and dehydration of residual sludge after biochemical treatment and others.
Cationic polyacrylamide can be used in industrial waste water treatment and municipal sewage treatment. It is generally suggested that low or medium ion degree and medium or high molecular weight products be applicable to industrial waste water treatment or the mixture of industrial and municipal waste water treatment, medium or high ion degree and medium or high molecular weight products be applicable to municipal sewage treatment respectively. Besides, high ion degree products work better in digested sludge treatment. If proper cationic polyacrylamide products are employed after concentration and flotation, organic matter in wastewater can be effectively removed.
