Two of the major types of synthetic water soluble polymers are coagulants and flocculants.
Coagulants are generally low molecular weight (20000 -500000), highly-charged cationic polymers that are excellent at destabilizing colloidal solids into particulate solids to aid their separation from water. These materials can often be used as a preparatory treatment prior to flocculation. Organic coagulants can also be used to replace, wholly or in part, Al3+ or Fe3+ metal salts. Coagulants are also effective in such areas as the separation of oil from water and the removal of color from water. Chinafloc’s coagulants are supplied as solutions fully miscible with water.
Flocculants are high molecular weight polymers (2-20 million), that can be anionic, cationic or non-ionic in nature and have the ability to bind together solid materials and facilitate separation by mechanical means (centrifuges, belt presses, gravity thickeners, dissolved air flotation). Selection of the correct combination of molecular weight, and the type and degree of ionic charge is vital to optimizing the processes in which the polymer is used. Chinafloc flocculants can be supplied as powder grades, emulsions or dispersions.
The chemistries used in creating our water-soluble polymers allows their functionality to go beyond coagulants and flocculants and in to applications such as dispersants, drilling mud additives, scale inhibition, filter aids, and pipeline friction reduction amongst many others.
